August 29th
Hi everybody,
A quick message before I start the next phase of the Plainsong tour…We played a weekend of festivals after our ‘warm-up’ show last week, dashing from Denmark to the East coast of England, then to the west in Shrewsbury, followed by London, to record a Bob Harris live session for the BBC! (For the UK based among you, the Bob Harris session will go out on September 9th, just before the UK dates).
The vibe among the musicians has been great, the harmonies sound as strong and beautiful as ever, and everybody seems to be having a good time so far. We’ve played shows with The Oyster Band & June Tabor (Tonder Festival in Denmark) and Richard Thompson in the UK, ( we did ‘Galway To Graceland’ as a tribute to RT who wrote it).
Now we are looking forward to coming over to Holland, Germany and Austria. I’m delighted that we will be in the Pavillon in Hannover (September 7th), which has always been one of my favourite venues. Since there are only 4 shows in Germany, I hope that you won’t miss the chance to see us one last time, even if if you live a little bit further away.
The CD ‘Fat Lady Singing’ is out now and is already selling well. Of course we’ll have it with us at the shows.
We return to England on September 11th for 5 UK concerts, finishing up at the lovely Union Chapel in London. That will be the second last Plainsong show ever, as our visit to Tokyo in October is now confirmed.
I do hope we’ll see lots of you at the upcoming gigs…it’s the last chance to hear that magic blend of voices. I’m going to miss it myself, but I’m determined to make the last tour special.
There will be more about my own future touring activities as soon as Plainsong’s dates are over. I’m excited to be playing Calgary Folk Club on October 12th. I start up again in earnest at the beginning of 2013.
Greetings to all,
XX Julian Dawson, Somerset 29th August.
